The Fall of Man
By the disobedience of Adam.
Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good
for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she
took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and
he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realised they
were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in
the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the
trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are
you?" 10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid
because I was naked; so I hid." 11 And he said, "Who told you that you
were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat
from?" 12 The man said, "The woman you put here with me--she gave me
some fruit from the tree, and I ate it."
with
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man,
and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all
sinned--13 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not
taken into account when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the
time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a
command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. 15 But the gift is
not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how
much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man,
Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Again, the gift of God is not like the
result of the one man's sin: The judgement followed one sin and brought
condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man,
how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of
the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. 18
Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men,
so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings
life for all men. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the
many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many
will be made righteous.
Through temptation of the devil.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals
the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, `You must
not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent,
"We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, `You
must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you
must not touch it, or you will die.'" 4 "You will not surely
die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you
eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and
evil."
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by
the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere
and pure devotion to Christ.
1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who
was deceived and became a sinner.
Man in consequence of.
Made in the image of Adam.
Genesis 5:3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own
likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.
with
1 Corinthians 15:48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of
the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear
the likeness of the man from heaven.
Born in sin.
Job 25:4 How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one
born of woman be pure?
Psalms 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my
mother conceived me.
Isaiah 48:8 You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your
ear has not been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a
rebel from birth.
John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to
spirit.
A child of the devil.
Matthew 13:38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for
the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,
John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry
out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to
the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native
language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
1 John 3:8 He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the
devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared
was to destroy the devil's work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to
sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has
been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the
children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child
of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
A child of wrath.
Ephesians 2:3 All of us also lived among them at one time,
gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and
thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.
Evil in heart.
Genesis 6:5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth
had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only
evil all the time.
Genesis 8:21 The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his
heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though
every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I
destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
Jeremiah 16:12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your fathers.
See how each of you is following the stubbornness of his evil heart instead of
obeying me.

adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.
Blinded in heart.

on their lips." 14 "Their mouths are full of cursing and
bitterness." 15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 ruin and
misery mark their ways, 17 and the way of peace they do not know." 18
"There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Depraved in mind.
Romans 8:5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have
their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance
with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of
sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7
the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it
do so.
Ephesians 4:17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that
you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.
Colossians 1:21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in
your minds because of your evil behaviour.

see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. 3 All have turned aside,
they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

God,

Colossians 1:21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in
your minds because of your evil behaviour.
In bondage to sin.
Romans 6:19 I put this in human terms because you are weak in your
natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to
impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to
righteousness leading to holiness.
Romans 7:5 For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the
sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore
fruit for death.

waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin
at work within my members.
Galatians 5:17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the
Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in
conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy,
being hated and hating one another.

God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man,
"Where are you?" 10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and
I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

what is right and never sins.

even one;
Abominable.

Condemnation to labour and sorrow.
Genesis 3:16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase
your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your
desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." 17 To Adam he
said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which
I commanded you, `You must not eat of it,' "Cursed is the ground because of
you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 18 It
will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the
field. 19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to
the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will
return."

made alive.
Eternal death.
Job 21:30 that the evil man is spared from the day of calamity,
that he is delivered from the day of wrath?
Romans 5:18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was
condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was
justification that brings life for all men. 19 For just as through the
disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the
obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. 20 The law was added
so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased
all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might
reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
