Why is there no power?
Do you cry out to a
distant God for "Revival"?
You are not alone for
many of today's Christian Leaders are calling out to a distant God for
revival to come!
No wonder He isn't answering, for they are shouting in the
wrong direction!
The Lord Jesus clearly
teaches that to be truly "Christian" then God should be living in
you.
In the following chapters you will find Charles G. Finney's view on the
Spirit-Filled life, and how to get it. A life of spiritual power to do good
while living in union with the Lord Jesus Christ, His Father and the Holy
Spirit. And other true Disciples!
Power from on High is an
important book for those who do not have union with Jesus!

Who
was
Charles Finney?
1792-1875
A tender-hearted and
devoted evangelist his revivals were known for the presence of the Holy Spirit,
great enlightenment of the human mind with the truth of God, deep conviction of
sin and sinners having a saving subjective experience based upon objective
truth.
Over a half million
people were converted through his ministry. In an age when there were no
amplifiers or mass communications, he spearheaded a revival in America, which
literally altered the course of history.
Clergy and secularists
alike denounced him for his innovations in evangelism. He was intolerably ahead
of his time. One preacher threatened to oppose him with cannons if he dared
venture into his parish.
He aimed his preaching at
man's intellect, not his emotions, and believed that all virtue resides in the
proper exercise of the will. He believed that the means that the Father uses to
draw men to Christ is truth John 6:44-45, which removes the idea of causation in
salvation. Man's will should be guided by an intellect, which has been
enlightened by the Holy Spirit through intelligent preaching to which he could
lend credence.
He preached so that man
could see the ignorance, stupidity, and illogicalness of sin and the
reasonableness, intelligence, wonderfulness and the philosophical rightness of
God and the Gospel of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Finney thought preachers
were to tear down all of the sinner's hiding places and take sides with God
against sin.
His convictions were born
in the fires of revival and shaped by a keen lawyer's mind committed to the full
authority of the Holy Bible. So effective were his theological writings that
they have been the impetus for revivals around the world since his death in
1875.
The reason many of
today's preachers refuse to acknowledge his theology is because of his teachings
on moral law De
5:27; 6:24; 10:12-13; 30:10-14; Ps 119:165; Pr 29:18; 28:4-7; Lk 1:6; Ro 8:4; 1
Jn 2:3, 4; 5:3.
A moral law without sanctions or consequences is not law but advice or a
suggestion. Moral Law seems to be a taboo subject in many churches that act as
if moral laws are not laws and openly allow the sin of leaders and members to go
undisciplined and unpunished.
He did not preach a
shallow gospel that a thinking man can see through, but a gospel that can be
accepted when thoughtfully and honestly considered. It will lead man to the
renouncing of sin and a happy grateful submission to the King of Kings and Lord
of All.
Many Church Leaders have
been praying for several years that revival may come. We can no more expect
revivals to come from the application of incorrect theology than we can expect
fruit to grow from plants grown with the application of inaccurate horticulture.
God, the Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ is the perfect gardener!
John 15:1 "I am
the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me
that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that
it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I
have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear
fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless
you remain in me. 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains
in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6
If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and
withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you
remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be
given you. 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing
yourselves to be my disciples. 9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I
loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in
my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I
have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be
complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater
love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are
my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a
servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends,
for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You
did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit
that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. (NIV
holy Bible)
Finney was successful
simply because his union with Christ Jesus, his Lord and Saviour, was
successful. Jn 14:23
He was also hated by Christian Leaders!
