Union with Christ
Disciples of Jesus:
Have Union with Christ in mind.
1 Co 2:16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may
instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Spiritual Mind.
Ro 8:6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by
the Spirit is life and peace;
1 Co 2:16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may
instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
Php 2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

God Unsearchable,
His ways and works.
Job 5:9 He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that
cannot be counted.
Job 11:7 "Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the
limits of the Almighty?
Job 33:13 Why do you complain to him that he answers none of man's
words?
Job 37:23 The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power; in
his justice and great righteousness, he does not oppress.
Ecc 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set
eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from
beginning to end.
Ecc 8:17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what
goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot
discover its meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really
comprehend it.
Isa 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the
everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or
weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
Ro 11:34 "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his
counsellor?"
1 Co 2:16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may
instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Christ's Example.
Php 2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Humility Commanded.
Micah 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does
the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with
your God.
Lk 14:10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when
your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then
you will be honoured in the presence of all your fellow guests.
Lk 22:26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among
you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
Ro 11:20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and
you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid.
Ro 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not
think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with
sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
Php 2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
1 Pe 5:5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are
older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
Pr 3:34 He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.

Have Union with Christ in spirit.
1 Co 6:17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him
in spirit.

Have Union with Christ in love.
Song of Songs 2:16 My lover is mine and I am his; he browses among
the lilies.

Divine Ownership.
Of the Souls of Men.
Dt 32:6 Is this the way you repay the LORD, O foolish and unwise
people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?
Eze 18:4 For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as
the son - both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die.
Ro 14:8 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the
Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
1 Co 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
Song of Songs 7:10 I belong to my lover, and his desire is for me.

Christ, Bridegroom.
Mt 9:15 Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom
mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be
taken from them; then they will fast.
Mt 25:1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten
virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
Mt 25:6 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom!
Come out to meet him!'
Jn 3:29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends
the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the
bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.
Rev 21:2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

The Church as Bride.
Isa 62:5 As a young man marries a maiden, so will your sons marry
you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.
2 Co 11:2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you
to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.
Rev 19:7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the
wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.
Rev 21:2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
Rev 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him
who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever
wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.

Have Union with Christ in sufferings.
Php 3:10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection
and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

New Man.
Spiritual Resurrection.
Raised from Spiritual Death.
Eze 37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered
them; they came to life and stood up on their feet - a vast army.
Lk 15:24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost
and is found.' So they began to celebrate.
Ro 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is
living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your
mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Ro 11:15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world,
what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
Eph 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
Eph 2:6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the
heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
Col 2:13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of
your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,
Col 3:1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts
on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

Suffering For Righteousness' Sake.
Suffering for Christ.
Ac 5:41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they
had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.
Ac 9:16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."
Ro 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and
co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may
also share in his glory.
Ro 8:36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day
long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
2 Co 1:7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as
you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.
2 Co 11:23 Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk
like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more
frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and
again.
Php 3:10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and
the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
2 Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
Heb 11:25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God
rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
Jas 5:10 Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering,
take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
1 Pe 2:20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for
doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it,
this is commendable before God.
1 Pe 3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are
blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened."
1 Pe 4:16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed,
but praise God that you bear that name.
1 Pe 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal
glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore
you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Denial of Christ.
2 Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown
him, he will also disown us;
Mt 10:33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before
my Father in heaven.
Mt 26:34 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "this
very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times."
Mt 26:69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant
girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said.
Mt 26:70 But he denied it before them all. "I don't know what
you're talking about," he said.
Mk 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and
sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his
Father's glory with the holy angels."
Ac 3:14 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a
murderer be released to you.
2 Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
Tit 1:16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.
They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
2 Pe 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as
there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive
heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them - bringing swift
destruction on themselves.
1 Jn 2:22 Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the
Christ. Such a man is the antichrist - he denies the Father and the Son.

Exaltation.
Spiritual Kinship, conditions of.
Fidelity.
Lk 22:28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials.
Lk 22:29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred
one on me,
Ro 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through
that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of
grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus
Christ.
1 Co 4:8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich!
You have become kings - and that without us! How I wish that you really had
become kings so that we might be kings with you!
Endurance.
2 Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown
him, he will also disown us;
2 Ti 2:13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot
disown himself.
Spiritual Cleansing.
Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the
firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who
loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, Rev 1:6 and has made us to
be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father - to him be glory and power
for ever and ever! Amen.
Rev 2:27 'He will rule them with an iron sceptre; he will dash them to
pieces like pottery' - just as I have received authority from my Father.
Victory over Satan.
Rev 20:4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been
given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded
because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had
not worshipped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their
foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand
years.
Rev 22:5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of
a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they
will reign for ever and ever.

The Rewards of the Faithful.
For Suffering Endured.
Mt 5:11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute
you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Mt 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Ro 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and
co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may
also share in his glory.
2 Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
Heb 10:34 You sympathised with those in prison and joyfully accepted
the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had
better and lasting possessions.
Heb 11:26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater
value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
Rev 20:4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given
authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because
of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not
worshipped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their
foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand
years.

Have Union with Christ in his death.
Ro 6:3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into
Christ Jesus were baptised into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him
through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the
dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have
been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united
with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with
him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be
slaves to sin - 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if
we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

Sacraments of Baptism.
Significance of Baptism.
Ro 6:3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptised into
Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
1 Co 12:13 For we were all baptised by one Spirit into one body -
whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free - and we were all given the one Spirit to
drink.
Gal 3:27 for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed
yourselves with Christ.
Col 2:12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him
through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
1 Pe 3:21 and this water symbolises baptism that now saves you also -
not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward
God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

The Believer as a New Man.
(Ps 40:3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our
God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.)
Eze 11:19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in
them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of
flesh.
Ro 6:4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in
order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, we too may live a new life.
Ro 7:6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released
from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old
way of the written code.
2 Co 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the
old has gone, the new has come!
Gal 6:15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what
counts is a new creation.
Eph 2:15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and
regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two,
thus making peace,
Eph 4:24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true
righteousness and holiness.
Col 3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in
knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Walk of Believers, Characteristics of.
New Life.
Ro 6:4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into
death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory
of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Ro 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus,
Faith.
2 Co 5:7 We live by faith, not by sight.
Spirituality.
Gal 5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify
the desires of the sinful nature.
Consistency.
Eph 4:1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a
life worthy of the calling you have received.
Love.
Eph 5:2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave
himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Caution.
Eph 5:15 Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but
as wise,
Col 2:6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue
to live in him,
Illumination.
1 Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us
from all sin.
Christlikeness.
1 Jn 2:6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Spiritual Bondage.
General References to the Bondage of Sin.
Pr 5:22 The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of
his sin hold him fast.
Jn 8:34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins
is a slave to sin.
Ac 8:23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to
sin."
Ro 6:16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to
obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey - whether you are
slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to
righteousness?
Ro 7:23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body,
waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin
at work within my members.
2 Ti 2:26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the
trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
2 Pe 2:19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves
of depravity - for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

Life of sin.
Ro 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so
that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves
to sin
Eph 4:22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to
put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
Col 3:9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old
self with its practices
1 Pe 4:3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans
choose to do - living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and
detestable idolatry.
2 Pe 1:9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and
blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.

Self-Denial.
By Subduing bodily desires.
Mt 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and
throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your
whole body to be thrown into hell.
Mt 18:8 If your hand or your foot causes you to sin cut it off and
throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to
have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.
Ro 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that
the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to
sin
Ro 8:13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die;
but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,
Ro 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do
not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Gal 5:16 So I
say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful
nature.
Gal 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful
nature with its passions and desires.
Col 3:5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly
nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is
idolatry.
1 Pe 2:11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the
world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
1 Pe 4:2 As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life
for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.

The Surrendered Life, Characteristics of.
Death to Sin.
Ro 6:2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any
longer?
Ro 6:7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
Ro 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God
in Christ Jesus.
Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but
Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Gal 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful
nature with its passions and desires.
Col 2:20 Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this
world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules:
Col 3:3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
2 Ti 2:11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will
also live with him;
1 Pe 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we
might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been
healed.

Christ Eternal.

Heb 7:3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning
of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever.

2 Ti 1:10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our
Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and
immortality to light through the gospel.

Have assurance of Union with Christ.

but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son
of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Jn 14:20 On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you
are in me, and I am in you.

Enjoy Union with Christ in the Lord's Supper.
1 Co 10:16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks
a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a
participation in the body of Christ?
Breaking of Bread.
Mt 14:19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass.
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks
and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave
them to the people.
Lk 24:30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave
thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.
Ac 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Ac 20:11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After
talking until daylight, he left.

in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat.

broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take it; this is my
body."

them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of
me."
1 Co 10:16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a
participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a
participation in the body of Christ?
1 Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you:
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
Believers as Sharers or Partakers.
1 Co 10:17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one
body, for we all partake of the one loaf.
Php 1:7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I
have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the
gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.
Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share
in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
1 Ti 6:2 Those who have believing masters are not to show less respect
for them because they are brothers. Instead, they are to serve them even better,
because those who benefit from their service are believers, and dear to them.
These are the things you are to teach and urge on them.
Heb 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling,
fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
Heb 6:4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who
have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,

thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his
holiness.

Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be
revealed:
2 Pe 1:4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious
promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and
escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and
night, has been hurled down.
Rev 19:10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to
me, "Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers
who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is
the spirit of prophecy."

innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you
for any extra expense you may have.'

The Poor.
Kindness to, Commanded.

Condemnation.

condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was
justification that brings life for all men.

to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?"

know how to speak; I am only a child."

child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.

ground. See, here is what belongs to you.'

and I'm on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.'

former.

me.

on the side of truth listens to me."

the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning
and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
Php 1:27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of

your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and
fall from your secure position.

Accessions to the Church.
On the Day of Pentecost.
Ac 2:41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about
three thousand were added to their number that day.
Daily Additions.
Ac 2:47 praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people.
And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Number Increased after Pentecost.
Ac 4:4 But many who heard the message believed, and the number of
men grew to about five thousand.
Steady Growth of the Church.

Lord and were added to their number.
Priests join the Disciples.
Ac 6:7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in
Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to
the faith.

a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew
in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and
Gentiles believed.

in numbers.
Ac 17:4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as
did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women.

Reception of God and Truth.
Col 2:7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as
you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Receiving Christ.
Mt 10:40 "He who receives you receives me, and he who
receives me receives the one who sent me.

welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent
me."

all expecting him.
Lk 19:6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

name, he gave the right to become children of God.

become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,
Heb 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily
entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
1 Pe 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be
self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus
Christ is revealed.
Rev 3:11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one
will take your crown.

Walk of Believers.
Characteristics of.

Ro 6:4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into
death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory
of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Ro 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in
Christ Jesus,

the desires of the sinful nature.

life worthy of the calling you have received.

Eph 5:2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave
himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Eph 5:15 Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but
as wise,
Col 2:6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue
to live in him,

1 Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us
from all sin.

1 Jn 2:6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Thankfulness.

your God for the good land he has given you.

give thanks to him and praise his name.

of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
1 Th 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for
you in Christ Jesus.

Instruction and Teaching.
Examples of Divine.
Dt 4:5 See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God
commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take
possession of it.
Ne 9:20 You gave your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not
withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst.
For the Young.
Ps 71:17 Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this
day I declare your marvellous deeds.
Isa 8:11 The LORD spoke to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me
not to follow the way of this people. He said:
Isa 28:26 His God instructs him and teaches him the right way.
Given with Infinite Pains.
Jer 32:33 They turned their backs to me and not their faces;
though I taught them again and again, they would not listen or respond to
discipline.
Foretold.
Jn 6:45 It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by
God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
1 Co 2:12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit
who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
Christ, the Great Teacher.
Eph 4:21 Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in
accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
Love's Great Lesson.
1 Th 4:9 Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you,
for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
1 Jn 2:27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in
you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you
about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit - just as it has
taught you, remain in him.

Security.
They are Firmly Established.
2 Ch 20:20 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa.
As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and
people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld;
have faith in his prophets and you will be successful."
Ps 40:2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he
set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
Ps 112:8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will
look in triumph on his foes.
Pr 12:19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a
moment.
Isa 54:14 In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be
far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will
not come near you.
Ro 16:25 Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the
proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden
for long ages past,
Col 2:7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you
were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
2 Th 2:17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed
and word.
Heb 13:9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It
is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods,
which are of no value to those who eat them.

Spiritual Foundation furnishes perfect security.
Isa 28:16 So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "See, I
lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure
foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.
Isa 54:11 "O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
I will build you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with sapphires.
Mt 7:24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and
puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
1 Co 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already
laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Eph 2:20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with
Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
1 Ti 6:19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a
firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that
is truly life.
2 Ti 2:19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed
with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and,
"Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from
wickedness."
Nu 16:5 Then he said to Korah and all his followers: "In the
morning the LORD will show who belongs to him and who is holy, and he will have
that person come near him. The man he chooses he will cause to come near him.
1 Pe 2:6 For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a
chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put
to shame."

Necessary to growth in grace.
Eph 4:15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all
things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole
body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds
itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Col 2:19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole
body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God
causes it to grow.

Unity of Believers.
Exhortations to.
1 Co 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions
among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.
2 Co 13:11 Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to
my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be
with you.
Eph 4:3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the
bond of peace.
Php 1:27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of
the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in
my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man
for the faith of the gospel
Php 4:2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with
each other in the Lord.
Col 2:2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united
in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in
order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
1 Pe 3:8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be
sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.

Necessary to fruitfulness.
Jn 15:4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear
fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless
you remain in me.
Jn 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in
me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Spiritual Fruit.
Conditions of Fruit-bearing:
Contact with the Living Water.
Ps 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields
its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Spiritual Receptivity.
Mt 13:23 But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil
is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a
hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."
Death of the Old Life.
Jn 12:24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to
the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces
many seeds.
Chastening, or Pruning.
Jn 15:2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while
every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more
fruitful.
Abiding in Christ.
Jn 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man
remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do
nothing.
Ro 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become
slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal
life.
Heb 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later
on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have
been trained by it.

Physical and Spiritual Helplessness of man.
Lk 13:11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit
for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.
Jn 5:7 "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to
help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in,
someone else goes down ahead of me."
Jn 6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me
draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jn 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in
me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Ac 3:2 Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple
gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into
the temple courts.
Ro 5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless,
Christ died for the ungodly.
Ro 7:18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful
nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

Powerlessness of Men Often Due to Sin and
Unbelief.
Israel could not stand before their enemies.
Lev 26:37 They will stumble over one another as though fleeing
from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to
stand before your enemies.
Dt 28:32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, and
you will wear out your eyes watching for them day after day, powerless to lift a
hand.
Jos 7:12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their
enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to
destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among
you is devoted to destruction.
Jdg 1:21 The Benjamites, however, failed to dislodge the Jebusites,
who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the
Benjamites.
Jdg 2:14 In his anger against Israel the LORD handed them over to
raiders who plundered them. He sold them to their enemies all around, whom they
were no longer able to resist.
A broken covenant stripped Sampson of his
strength.
Jdg 16:17 So he told her everything. "No razor has ever been
used on my head," he said, "because I have been a Nazirite set apart
to God since birth. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I
would become as weak as any other man."
Apostacy produced a nations of cowards.
1 Sa 17:24 When the Israelites saw the man, they all ran from him
in great fear.
Babylon enervated by idolatory.
Jer 51:30 Babylon's warriors have stopped fighting; they remain in
their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Her
dwellings are set on fire; the bars of her gates are broken.
Unbelief rendered the apostles helpless to
contend with Satanic forces.
Mk 9:18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He
foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples
to drive out the spirit, but they could not."
Jn 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in
me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
